The days of a $200 windshield replacement are coming becoming a thing of the past. Newer vehicles can include sensors and cameras built into your vehicle's windshield. Recalibration is also normally necessary with windshield replacements that have these features. Therefore, a windshield in a newer car with these sensors, cameras and even rain sensing wipers can cost well over $1500 to replace!
If a rock hits your windshield and the windshield needs to be replaced, your Comprehensive Coverage deductible would apply. Many companies offer an endorsement that can be added to your Personal Automobile Insurance policy (per vehicle) waiving the Comprehensive Coverage deductible for safety glass damage to your vehicle. This endorsement is commonly referred to as "Full Safety Glass Coverage" or "Full Glass Coverage".
Be careful to check the endorsement limitations for what glass replacement will waive the comprehensive deductible. There can be exclusions for the waiver of deductible with sunroofs, mirrors and moon roofs. Normally, safety glass includes only your windshield, back window and door windows. For example, if your sunroof is damaged, your Comprehensive Coverage deductible would apply.
